MEMBER CARD
Your money just got more manageable.

New look - just as reliable, secure & easy. The new DPCU Member Card® is protected by chip technology – the most secure and reliable method available.
As we convert our member/debit cards to chip technology, we have taken this opportunity to customize and add a fresh new look to our cards. Members who actively use their debit card at an ATM or to make purchases will start receiving replacement cards in December 2010. The distribution process will be complete by mid 2011.
If you have moved within the last year, please make sure your address has been updated on our records so there’s no worry about receiving your new card.
- A chip card is a credit or debit card containing an embedded computer chip, which gives the card the ability to store and process data. Chip cards and chip terminals work together to ensure a highly secure transaction by validating the card and the cardholder. The computer chip provides additional protection to avoid disclosure of personal information and is very difficult to copy, creating a multi-layered defence against fraud and identity theft.
- This doesn’t mean you should stop doing your part: shield your PIN from prying eyes, never give it away and don’t write it down in your purse or wallet.
- You can use your Member Card® chip card anywhere in the world — at any Automated Teller Machine (ATM) or retail location on the Interac and associated international networks.
- Magnetic stripe will co-exist with chip card technology to allow you to use your Member Card debit card at non–chip-enabled terminals until 2015. In non–chip-enabled terminals, you will swipe your card and enter your PIN the way you do now.
- You can keep using your current card until you receive your new chip card.
Your Member Card® chip card is welcome at ATMs and merchants across Canada and around the world through the networks identified on the back of your card.
Not much. When using your chip card to make a purchase, it will remain in the merchant’s terminal for the duration of the transaction, rather than being ‘swiped’ through. As always, you’ll enter your PIN and follow the prompts to complete your transaction. At an ATM you’ll notice no difference at all. But in both cases, the chip card protects your information and makes your transaction more secure than ever.
You don’t have to do anything — you will automatically receive your Member Card chip card in the mail once your card has been identified for conversion to chip. For enhanced security, you will be issued a new PIN in a separate mailer. Changing your PIN is simple — If you’d like to change your PIN, or if you’ve forgotten it, just visit your nearest Dauphin Plains Credit Union branch to have it reset.
is the latest innovation in the rapidly-changing payments environment and demonstrates the industry’s efforts to prevent fraud and further secure electronic payments for all Canadians.
Credit unions have been working with major banks, other card issuers and Canada’s Interac Association to set standards for chip cards, ATMs and Direct Payment devices and we are on track to make the move to chip with the entire industry.
The technology has been tested, proven and is in wide use around the world.
What is a chip card?
A chip card, or ‘smart card’ is a credit or debit card that has a microchip embedded into the plastic.
How do I use my chip card?
Instead of ‘swiping’ your chip card, it is inserted in the terminal until the transaction is complete. You will be asked to input your Personal Identification Number (PIN) as normal. After the transaction is completed, remove your chip card, and collect your receipt.
What does the chip do?
The embedded microchip stores data much the same as the magnetic stripe does on your current debit card. The chip communicates with the terminal to verify the card and PIN, providing an additional layer of security.
Will my chip card still have a magnetic strip?
Yes, your new Dauphin Plains Credit Union MemberCard contains both a chip and a magnetic stripe to ensure your card is widely accepted. You can use your chip card at terminals that are non-chip enabled, as well as countries, such as the United States that have not yet converted to chip technology.
Is my current debit card unsafe?
Current debit card technology continues to be a safe form of payment with 99.99% of transactions processed without incident. The addition of the microchip represents the future of electronic payment and helps to make a safe technology even more secure.
How do I get my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?
For security reasons, your PIN will be mailed to you separately from your new chip MemberCard. If you would like to change your PIN once you receive your chip card, visit your local Dauphin Plains Credit Union branch or ATM.
When will I be receiving my chip card?
Members will start receiving new chip cards as early as December, with all cards converted by the end of 2011. As your debit card is identified to be replaced, you will receive your new PIN prior to receiving your new Chip MemberCard. Once you have your new card and PIN, please begin using them immediately as your old card will soon expire.
